Access FAQ

I'm using a terminal on our campus and I cannot gain access.

If you are a 4-year degree institution within the United States, your domain likely ends in the suffix .edu. If you cannot gain access make sure the IP address of your terminal is properly mapped in your DNS. If problems persist, it may be that Reverse DNS is not working properly at your location. Consult your system administrator.

For educational institutions that fall under the .us domain structure or are international, please complete this form.

Browsing works fine on campus, but not when I dialup my ISP.

Internet Service Providers and online services are commercial organizations. They require subscription-based access. You might also consider a personal subscription.
How does access to your site work?
I've subscribed and want to cancel, what's your refund policy?
There have been many computer and telecom magazine subscriptions that have fallen out of favor with me, with no refunds available. Our policy conforms to that rule. Sorry, there are no refunds.
I don't have a DNS address, can I submit an IP address?
No. IP addresses come and go. Domain names stay forever. IP address ranges are accepted only with commercial/corporate subscriptions.
Can I use your material for training purposes?
All information herein is protected by US Copyright law, and is in accordance with the international standards set forth in the 1989 Berne Convention. Fair use clearly protects your rights as educators, as long as the owner's acknowledgement/copyright is displayed. If the text is sent outside your immediate domain (perhaps to an external customer), fair use is violated and you are now open to prosecution. Circular 21 defines fair use in more detail.

The Telecom Corner is developed and managed by technicians. It's content is based upon real-world experiences. We'd rather be out there doing it, than tracking down people to talk about advertising. Some have said that, "there are those that do, and those that teach". We are genuinely blessed by being able to do a little bit of both!
